Edith Marsh
Partner
Edith writes wills and trusts, settles estates, plans farm successions and closes on land, from the office or at the kitchen table.
Edith grew up on a beef and hay farm east of town and came back to Galena after law school to join the office Walter Hollister opened. Most of her work is planning: who gets the land, who can sign for a parent, what happens to the shop.
She also handles the closings that go with that work: deeds, easements and the sale of a field or an old building downtown.

How Edith works
A first meeting with Edith is mostly listening: who is in the family, what you own, and what keeps you up at night about it. She sends a short written summary and a quote before drafting anything.
For a farm family she often meets with two generations at once, so the plan is one everyone has heard, not one somebody finds in a drawer later.
When someone has died
If you're the executor, call before you sell anything or close any accounts. Edith walks you through the order things happen in and does the court filings.
